The album Southern Gothic continues to grow and I so appreciate my Patron Saints for making it happen! I wanted to update you on the happenings of our adventure:

We are still recording. I keep thinking we can wrap up the recording process and move onto mixing, but it turns out to be much more fluid procedure as we record and mix and then record some more. We have added songs and I am pleased to include a song by my friend Vicki Salz. I have long admired her work and she has graciously given me permission to use a song on the album. The spare and stripped down sound that we arranged in pre-production has given way to a lusher instrumentation. We have added violin to the mix, and more musicians have been incorporated into the process overall. I am thrilled by the collaborative nature of this album and the excitement it continues to create while being made. I recorded my first two albums, for the most part, by myself, and so this process is new to me. I love it!

New Record due December 2011

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to make this campaign a success! We are so delighted to get to work and wanted to let you all know a little bit about the process and when you should be expecting your album.

Pre-production is already done: we have built sound traps to line the studio walls, arranged songs and lined up musicians, and have the studio set up and ready to record. We begin immediately recording the entirety of the album. After that comes the difficult and lengthier challenge of mixing the recorded tracks. This is a process that is repeated several times as we hone down the material so that it shines like a diamond. Lastly, we have the tracks mastered, which is a finer tuning that takes the material to radio-ready status. Then the album is officially done and we send it off to be duplicated and printed up. I will be designing the album artwork throughout the process, prompted by where the journey of recording takes us. I reserve the right as the artist (and woman) in residence to change the title of the album if I see fit, so don’t get too attached to the name Southern Gothic. I can assure you that it will be a full-length album with my best material yet. It is always a voyage that involves lots of beating our heads against the studio wall, but also a significant amount of magic too. We anticipate the finished product to be ready by Christmas when Santa will ship off and email the CDs and digital albums. I will send off the information survey from kickstarter as we get closer to completion of the project to collect addresses and email addresses. Kickstarter advises us to wait as people move and life changes…

Again, we so appreciate your belief and support of this project and I look forward to thanking you in person.

With love, Tifany
